WINTERIZING YOUR POOL SYSTEM
IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
NORMAL PROCEDURES
Keeping water moving through your system during the coldest part of the night helps to
prevent freeze damage.
* Reset Time Clocks to run at night
* Run the filter pump at least 4 hours
* Run the pool cleaner only when the filter pump is running
EXTREME COLD
If the temperature is below freezing take immediate steps to help protect your system from
freeze damage.
*Turn the filter pump ON and let it run continuously until freeze is over. To do this you must remove
the OFF tripper from your time clock....OR
* Place 6 firelogs in the pool/spa to help prevent the ice from cracking the tile.
* Break up surface ice daily.
* Wrap exposed pipes and PVC with thermal protectors.
HEAVY RAIN
If your pool becomes too full...
* Attach a hose to the hose bib/faucet at your equipment and turn the filter pump on to drain
off excess water.
* In cases of extreme rain it may be necessary to use a submersible pump or have a valve installed on
your filter pump outlet.
* If your motor(s) are not protected from the rain we have "easy to install" motor covers.
* Try to prevent mud and debris from getting into your pool. The removal can be costly.
* Clean your deck drains. Clear debris from yard and sides of pool.
* Check retaining walls and raised flowerbeds to determine how you might divert drainage away
from your pool.
SOLAR BUBBLE COVERS
You should remove, roll up and store your cover in a dry place just as soon as your swim season ends.
Cold water and weather will cause the bubble to disintegrate. If you store the pool cover outside it
should be covered with a white plastic protective cover.
AUTOMATIC POOL COVERS (Electric)
Refer to your owners manual for winter care. Rake the leaves off the cover frequently. Pump the water
off the cover to prevent the weight of the water from damaging the cover and mechanism when opening.
SUMMARY
We give your pool the Professional Touch when it comes to "Winterizing"
*You can help by inspecting your equipment weekly (more often during weather extremes) to insure it
is operating properly, and having it repaired promptly if there is a problem.
* It is very important to keep your water "In Balance" all year long. Improper water chemistry can lead
to plaster damage, algae growth and equipment failure.
